If it is not too bold of me to say so, I don't hold that impression of you. To be fair, Captain Crozier and Mr. Frost are starkly different men from one another, as well, and my time with them was dictated by developing familiarities and enjoying deeper intimacies, respectively. I see no reason not to expect that our contract will possess its own strengths, regardless of the ways in which it differs from any agreement I have been part of in recent years.

In other words, you have never been a disappointment to me, Thomas, and I do not anticipate that changing any time soon.

I could be in favour of a brazen disregard of designations under club circumstances, though I am sure that comes as no surprise to you. If one is to discipline others, he must be familiar with a certain amount of discipline himself.

It is not too bold of you to say so. I admit I find myself, while not a man of low quality, still a man of lesser quality than either of them, of whom I held and still hold great respect and admiration. As I hold your opinion in high regard, I'll do my very best to rise to the occasion.

That encapsulates my feelings perfectly on the matter. I've always held the opinion that someone in a position of authority should have the experience of being in a more subservient state at least once, simply to understand the reverse.

Would you allow me to disagree with you, then, on your quality, irrespective of theirs? A lesser man would never have even entertained the thought of offering me a contract, let alone acted on it.

If I've learned anything from my Navy service, it's that those best suited for command have got an intimate understanding of what those below them need, even if it's not always what's most comfortable. And I presume the best of them got their fair share of sore bottoms in their youths. Knowing all I've learned here, it would come as no surprise if many had mistresses on land who wacked those bottoms in their adulthood.

I'll allow your disagreement, and I will even accept it, though I would find it hard to believe that you've not got a whole line of gentlemen after your contract.
